Exhibition: „Begraebnis der Vergangenheit - Burial of the Past“ from 26 May 2011
Following up the Dresden years of painter and printmaker Hans Körnig, the new exhibition in the museum Körnigreich focuses on how it came to his decision to not return to Dresden after the Wall was built. The title „Begraebnis der Vergangenheit“ (Burial of the Past) was chosen by the artist for one his last pieces of work created in Dresden before he travelled through Belgium and the Netherlands with his family in the summer of 1961.
Koernig could not foresee that he would never see this painting nor the other ones originated in his Dresden studio ever again. In addition to travel impressions Körnig made in the first year of his Lower Bavarian exile, the aquatint etching cycle "Berlin" of 1965, in which he deals with the divided city, is displayed as well.
